Established in 2023, Moving Image Tottenham is a professional powerhouse for high-quality storytelling. It serves as a gathering point for emerging filmmakers who already have experience in the industry to collaborate on ambitious short films.
While this project operates independently of the FAB UK Film Academy, it provides a “living classroom” for our students. Academy members have the unique opportunity to join these professional sets to observe and learn from experts in real-time. Even better, if they take an active role in the production, they are paid while they learn, turning their education into a professional stepping stone.
Success by the Numbers (Phase 1)
Since its launch, the project has already proven its value to the Haringey community:
- 7 Short Movies: Each with a unique vision.
- 7 Different Directors: Bringing diverse styles and backgrounds.
- 82+ Participants: Local creatives working together to build something world-class.
From West Green Road to the Big Screen
All seven films were set in a single location, the iconic Café Lemon on West Green Road—but their reach has gone far beyond Tottenham. These films have been screened at prestigious venues including:
- Crouch End Picturehouse

Why this works (The “Why”) - Professional Immersion: This works because it removes the “simulation” of a classroom. Students are on a real set with real deadlines and professional expectations.
- Economic Dignity: By paying students for their contributions, we validate their talent and help them move away from “toxic” environments by proving that creativity is a viable, paying career.
- Community Pride: Seeing local landmarks like Café Lemon on the screens of Art’otel Hoxton or Picturehouse transforms the neighborhood’s image. It proves that Tottenham isn’t just a place where you live; it’s a place where high-end art is born.
